Lançado originalmente em 18 de novembro de 1997, “ReLoad” foi o terceiro álbum consecutivo do Metallica a estrear em primeiro lugar na Billboard 200, permanecendo por quase 80 semanas na parada e alcançando o primeiro lugar em seis países, além de figurar entre os dez primeiros em quase mais uma dúzia. As sessões de 1995 a 1997 no estúdio The Plant, em Sausalito, Califórnia, que resultaram nos álbuns “ReLoad” e “Load”, viram James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett e Jason Newsted explorando novos territórios criativos e expandindo os limites da identidade sonora do Metallica.
